目前，全市栀子种植面积近10万亩，年产值1.8亿元，是国内栀子原科林面积最大、总产量最多的药用栀子产区和栀子果交易集散地，并相继取得“黄栀子地理标志证明商标”“中国栀子名市”“中国栀子文化小镇”“栀子优质道地药材示范基地”等称号。

结合栀子产业现状，农工党福建省委会建议，鼓励各地政府从实际出发，统一规划和开发栀子种植加工基地，对企业、合作社、农民集约化种植栀子及深加工进行补贴和扶持，对良种引进、高产优质栽培、色素提取及深加工等关键技术开展攻关研究。

为行业提供最佳解决方案。 农工党福建省委会还提出，应充分挖掘栀子产业在医药、生态农业、食品加工等方面的价值，延长产业链条，开拓市场销路；借助主流农商电子交易平台，积极拓宽货源渠道；加强栽培技术培训、田间管理技术指导，为农民提供种苗供应、销售信息等全方位服务，提升栀子花果的原料质量，打“优质优价”牌，推动栀子产业健康稳定发展；加强品牌文化建设，加大宣传力度，支持鼓励有条件的乡镇发展栀子花生态旅游，实现一二三产业融合发展。
